Review of Helikon-Tex winter tactical jacket Level 7 from users.
We are always glad to have the opportunity to acquaint you with the products of the European brand Helikon-Tex. This time we want to tell you about the features of the Helikon-Tex ECW Level7 Gen3 winter jacket in Coyote colors, presented in our store. This was far from the first acquaintance with Helikon clothing. We tested this jacket and its urban counterpart Husky throughout last year's winter and to date, both in the field and in urban conditions.
ECW stands for Extreme Cold Weather, and there is a concept of seven levels for a wide climatic range of use from -40 ° C to 40 ° C, where level 1 is for hot weather, and level 7 for very, very cold. Now that it's getting colder every day of winter, you will need to increase the amount of clothing you use to ensure that it is suitable and protective thanks to the combination of layers. Being in the temperate climate of Tactical Jacket the city of Kiev, nevertheless, during these almost two winters, experience the LEVEL 7 jacket both in frosts of about -23 Celsius, and in wet snow with wind, rains at above-zero temperatures. I would like to note several aspects when used in a wide range of weather conditions:
1) It copes well with keeping rain in strong winds, it is not blown out and does not get wet.
2) When the temperature in winter rises to 5 Celsius during the day it is not hot in the jacket, it perfectly maintains a comfortable temperature.
3) When the temperature drops to -23 Celsius, it qualitatively maintains the same comfortable temperature, prevents the piercing wind, and thanks to the insulated hood with drawstrings, you can not even use a hat.
The first thing we did when we received these winter jackets was to check the quality of the seams along the zippers, cuffs, on the pockets. Often, in other brands in this price category, you can notice uneven seams or thread defects. But Helikon, as always, pleased with the absence of such flaws.
The jacket has two large outer pockets with YKK zippers and a fleece lining that keeps your hands warm in cold weather. Both pockets have some extra features, such as elastic D-rings for securing and securing small items, and a small pocket perfect for a mobile phone with a display up to 5 inches. Inside these pockets, there are also drawstrings for tightening the hood, perfect for adjusting without getting your hands out of your pockets.
There is only one inside zip pocket located on the left and has enough storage space, again using YKK zippers.
Two inner mesh elastic pockets, located on the bottom left and right, have a large volume for carrying, even with the weight of three filled magazines, do not sag below the baseline of the jacket.
The insulated hood is well hidden in the collar by means of a two-way zipper and embossed Helikon-Tex branded tongues, which makes it very easy to access even with gloves and does not require jerks, the movement is very smooth. The hood is quite large, perfectly adjustable to any head size thanks to several drawstrings located in several zones. The hood can be tightened along the edge through the two external chest pockets, the cords are located inside. This feature ensures that there is no blowing or snow getting under the hood. The inner lining of the collar is made of a very soft and pleasant square-shaped fleece.
We loved the manufacturer's use of the “parallel draw cord locks”, of which you have three, to allow the wearer to best fit the hood for both protection and comfort.
The lower part of the Level 7 Tactical Winter Jacket uses left and right fastening locks again. All eyes on the jacket are metal. I usually prefer fabric, but with the constant use of a drawstring and other factors, I can understand why the manufacturer went this route.
The Velcro panels used on the left and right shoulders are of good size to accommodate standard military and morale patches, and are good to use without fraying or tearing the rip-stop fabric after daily use for even more than two years. The same with regard to the reliability of the sewn-on velcro straps applies to the adjustment of the cuffs. Enough elastic material has been used to provide a more closed and secure fit, reduce heat loss, snow and rain.
