Large gray geese are very mobile, weight-gaining birds that feed well with any kind of food and have excellent health. Within the breed, the gray goose is divided into two types: Steppe Tambov and Borkovsky. The difference between them is only in the different regions of the foundation of the breed and its current habitat.

It is noteworthy that the gray goose was bred twice and at the same time. This coincidence happened due to the simultaneous discovery of the breed in the Tambov region (Russia) and at the Institute of Poultry (renamed to Poultry Center in 2003) in the Kharkov region, near the village. Borki (Ukraine). We got a beautiful feathered one by crossing the Romny and Toulouse tribal individuals. Now the breed is bred everywhere in Ukraine and in Russia.
Outwardly, the gray goose is a very fine, strong, well-fed bird with a thick neck of medium length, a wide body and two fat folds on the belly. The chest is convex, massive, and relief. The back has well-developed large wings. The bird also has brown eyes and strong red legs.
The upper part of the body is gray, the lower part is light gray, almost white, the legs are orange-red. Geese weigh about 6 kg, and males weigh about 7 kg, but there are also individuals weighing 9 kg.

In keeping, the gray goose is unpretentious, maybe this is why farmers appreciate it and try in every possible way to characterize their pets with flattering reviews. The bird is mobile, has good health, easily finds food, in summer it gains weight well on free range with obligatory one-time feeding during the day. For food, these birds are usually given special compound feed (now there are many types of them), as well as fresh cut grass, corn, silage from cereals and legumes.
Winter feeding should be dense and three times a day. The basis of the diet in winter: grain, roots, cabbage leaves. In general, the gray goose is an almost omnivorous creature, but when fattening, you should not save on high quality feed. Then the carcass after slaughter will be of high quality. Pets are kept under strict observance of three conditions: cleanliness, dryness, absence of drafts.
